Just a reminder that all dogs must have a valid license, which is renewable yearly.  Fees are Spayed/Neutered $8.50 and Unspayed/Unneutered $15.50.  If you are a resident 65 or older, the fees are $3.50.  The Dog Control Officer for the Town is Ed Hintz, 532-6648.

FLOODING

During the first two weeks of March, Sweet Meadows was seriously threatened by the rising waters of the Sawkill Creek and the creek behind Sweet Meadows.  In 2001 the NYS DEC granted the town a permit to clean out the Sawkill Creek.  This helped for awhile, but needs to be done again.  Hopefully this will be able to done in the summer when the creek is at its lowest.  The Town is also looking into other possibilities to relieve the flooding.

In the meantime, there are some things that can be done to lessen the severity of high water.  This applies to not only the Sawkill Creek, but especially the creek behind the Meadows.  Do not throw grass cuttings leaves, tree limbs, or any other debris over the embankments.  This decreases the water flow area, resulting in water jumping the embankments more quickly.  A much safer way to dispose of leaves in the fall is to put them out for the Town leak pickup.  Other debris, such as small tree limbs and twigs can be broken up and put in your trash for pickup.  If you have larger debris, you can contact the Town Highway Superintendent (336-8899) and arrange for a Highway truck to be left at your home on a weekend.  The only charge to you is the cost of the dump fees.  This service has been available for many years.

The Town is very lucky to have the Sawkill Fire Co., who always assists Sweet Meadows residents by setting up roadblocks, keeping residents informed and assisting in any way they can.  As always if you have any questions, or comments, please contact the Supervisor or one of your Councilmen, who are always willing to listen and try to help.

TOWN LAWS

The local laws in the Town of Kingston are undergoing some changes.  Most of the existing laws are on the Town website listed above.  There are also some new laws either in effect or being worked on.  The Town Board is working on a law regulating property maintenance which gives the Town the authority to correct hazards to roadways and public health on private property, and to add the costs of this cleanup to the property taxes.  This law is mainly for uninhabited or abandoned property.  The Board is also working on a regulation of wind generating facilities and storage or contractors equipment.  The Subdivision Law is currently being worked on and will be added to the Zoning Law.

Because our laws are often updated or new laws are put into effect, do not rely only on the Town website.  You can find the latest versions of all Town Laws at the Town Hall, 906 Sawkill Rd., 845-336-8853.
